Heritage with a Future

protecting the future of our heritage & Environment

Luxury hospitality, rooted in responsibility

At St. Helen’s Hotel Dublin, sustainability is part of our day-to-day operations and long-term planning. As a historic Dublin landmark, we recognise our responsibility to minimise our environmental impact, protect natural resources and contribute positively to the community around us, while maintaining the comfort, service and operational standards expected of a five-star hotel.

Our approach is guided by the Green Hospitality Programme and aligned with recognised sustainability criteria, including the EU Ecolabel and Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards. We are working towards Eco-Label certification and Green Hospitality Gold Award status through 2026.

Water Stewardship

We are committed to reducing mains water use through efficient fixtures, proactive maintenance, operational controls and guest and team awareness. Water consumption is measured against guest occupancy so that progress can be tracked in a meaningful way.

Our target is to reduce litres of water used per guest night by 5% by 2027.

Energy & Climate

We are working to reduce energy consumption and associated carbon emissions through regular monitoring, improved building controls and responsible equipment use. This includes a progressive transition to LED lighting across the property and ongoing improvements to how energy is managed throughout the hotel.

Energy performance is measured per guest night to support accurate benchmarking, with a target to reduce energy use by 5% per guest night by 2027.

Green Procurement

Our purchasing decisions favour local and Irish-based suppliers where possible, supporting regional businesses while helping to reduce transport-related emissions. We also work with suppliers to reduce packaging and minimise single-use materials across hotel departments.

Our goal is to source 50% of our suppliers locally within Ireland by mid-2027.

Our target is to reduce litres of water used per guest night by 5% by 2027.

Waste Management & Circular Practices

We prioritise waste prevention, separation and recycling across back-of-house areas, public spaces and guest bedrooms. Food waste is treated as a key priority through prevention, monitoring and redistribution where appropriate.

Our targets include a 5% reduction in landfill waste, the elimination of single-use plastics by 2026, and a 10% reduction in food waste by 2027.

Community & Culture

Sustainability is also about people and place. As part of the local community, St. Helen’s Hotel Dublin supports charitable partnerships, community initiatives and an inclusive workplace culture where our team can take pride in shared sustainability goals.

Each year, we aim to organise at least two community or charity partnerships or events, and all employees receive sustainability training relevant to their role
